NICKEL, COPPER: EPA recommends against re-issuing NorthMet Mine water permit

The US Environmental Protection Agency is recommending against a required water permit for the proposed $1 billion PolyMet copper-nickel mine in Minnesota, Kallanish reports. The agency, in a three-day public hearing, says the project could increase levels of mercury and other pollutants in the St Louis River downstream from the NorthMet mine project.
