The United States, Canada, and Mexico will work together to boost critical mineral supply chains, to increase electrical vehicle battery charging operations along international borders and to develop a clean hydrogen energy market, Kallanish reports.

Those pledges came from President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, speaking at the 10th North American Leaders Summit this week in Mexico City, Mexico. The leaders unveiled new three-country initiatives on a sweeping array of subjects from public health to semiconductors, from climate change to human migration, from drug trafficking to clean energy, from Haiti’s problems to methane and black carbon pollution.

The leaders promised to expand North American critical minerals mapping to collect new information on resources and reserves. The Geological Surveys of each country will organize a trilateral workshop to share data and facilitate cooperation.

“Now we’re working to a future to strengthen our cooperation on supply chains and critical minerals so that we can continue accelerating our efforts to build the technologies of tomorrow right here in North America,” President Biden says in a speech at the summit.

The three countries pledged to develop a plan for operating standards and the installation of EV chargers along international borders to ensure a seamless charging transition from country to country. The countries also agreed to share information on best practices to electrify and decarbonise public bus systems.

The countries agreed to develop a North American clean hydrogen market including cooperation of research and development, safety codes and standards, cross-border hydrogen clusters, green freight corridors, and integrated maritime operations.
