Volkswagen Group picks Canada as home for its first non-EU gigafactory
Volkswagen Group on Monday confirmed Canada as the location for its first battery gigafactory outside Europe, set to enter production in 2027, Kallanish reports.
The plant will be built in St. Thomas, Ontario, and will produce unified cells to power the group’s electric models in North America. The undisclosed investment will be done via PowerCo, the group’s battery subsidiary, and follows an MOU with the Canadian government last year.
