Brazil steel exports fall, imports rise in May
Brazil saw steel exports decrease month-on-month in May. Shipments abroad, however, were higher year-on-year, Kallanish notes. Import activity recovered after two months of relatively lower entries.
According to local steelmakers’ association Instituto Aço Brasil (IAB)’s latest data, imports were 23.9% higher m-o-m to 275,857 tonnes in May, but 49.9% lower compared to 550,400t a year earlier.
