China's scrap price boosted by tight supply
Scrap supply in China is short of demand, and so scrap prices have increased. EAF steelmaking however is nearing losses, and EAF mills are reducing scrap purchases.
On Friday, Kallanish assessed 6mm+ heavy scrap delivered to mills in eastern China's Yangtze River Delta at CNY 3,877/tonne ($609/t), including VAT. This is up CNY 49/t from Thursday and up CNY 101/t compared with the previous Friday.
