Chinese scrap gains on surging demand
China's scrap steel market last week basically recovered to the level seen before the Spring Festival. Steel mills replenished their inventories, driving up scrap steel demand.
On Friday, Kallanish assessed 6mm+ heavy scrap delivered to mills in eastern China's Yangtze River Delta at CNY 3,111/tonne ($457/t), including VAT. This is unchanged from Thursday and up CNY 41/t from the previous Friday.
