Electrode costs could further pressure northwest European rebar
In addition to surging energy prices and several other dire cost factors at electric arc furnace mills, prices of graphite electrodes are on the way to bringing more pain.
On Friday, graphite electrodes maker Graftech issued quarterly results, with chief executive David Rintoul stating that spot prices for the company’s electrodes rose by 12% in the third quarter versus Q2 (see separate story). The firm expects a further 7-9% rise in Q4 in spot contracts.
