Evraz delivers 'green' rails to Russian Railways

Russian steelmaker Evraz has shipped a pilot batch of green rails to Russian Railways RZD. The carbon footprint of their manufacture is 0.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per tonne of steel, which is four times lower than for traditional blast furnace/converter technology, the enterprise claims. The first batch of 5,000 tonnes of these rails was produced at Evraz ZSMK, Kallanish notes. The low carbon footprint was achieved thanks to the use of an electric arc furnace…
