German first-quarter output falls, oxygen-route production rising
Crude steel production by German mills in the first quarter continued to be lower than a year earlier, national steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl writes in its monthly statistics.
From January through March, German mills produced 9.16 million tonnes of crude steel, some 7% less than in Q1 2022. In March, the trend alleviated somewhat, with a more gradual drop of 3% year-on-year, at an output of 3.24mt.
