Italian pig iron buyers stay on the fence
Italian pig iron market activity has not yet properly resumed after the August summer break as buyers remain in wait-and-see mode, discouraged by uncertainty and low visibility, Kallanish notes.
Local distributors, who purchase directly from producers to replenish stocks at the main Marghera port, are buying pig iron from Donetsk, the so-called Donbas pig iron, at $430/tonne cfr Italy. They are shunning more expensive Russian material.
