South Africa's first-quarter steelmaking minerals income drops
South African steelmaking minerals export income was down 9.7% on-year to ZAR 39.2 billion ($2.42 billion) in the first quarter on a free on rail (for) basis. The country's export volumes declined 2.8% on-year to 19.85 million tonnes. The drop is due mainly to the decline in iron ore production due to seasonal rainfall and lower average iron ore prices, Kallanish notes.
