Turkey’s 2022 slab imports jump, Russian supply prevails
Turkish slab imports recovered significantly in 2022, almost to the level of 2020, with new supply sources replacing the now practically absent, formerly staple Ukrainian slab, despite higher Russian-origin arrivals.
In 2022, Turkish steelmakers received 2.29 million tonnes of merchant slab, 50.1% more than in 2021. December arrivals totalled 182,428t, down 24% on-month and up 1.2% on-year, Kallanish notes from Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data.
