Xinyu Steel begins steelworks upgrade
Jiangxi-based Xinyu Iron and Steel announced the construction start of its upgrade project on Wednesday. The centrepiece of the project will be a 130-tonne electric arc furnace (EAF), Kallanish observes.
Due to the upgrade requirements imposed by the state on backward equipment, Xinyu Steel made the upgrade plan in 2020. Its two 50t EAFs will be replaced by a 130t EAF, but total crude steel capacity will remain unchanged at 1 million tonnes/year.
