Kallanish Steel Weekly: ArcelorMittal expects steel demand, shipments to recover in 2023 (Feb. 14, 2023)

ArcelorMittal expects global apparent steel consumption outside of China to rebound 2-3% on-year in 2023, supported by the end of destocking that characterised the second half of 2022.For China, the steelmaker expects demand to remain stable.“As we look ahead, evidence suggests that the customer destock we saw in the second half of 2022 has peaked, hence providing support to apparent steel consumption and steel spreads,” ArcelorMittal chief executive Aditya Mittal reports. “Although geopolitical uncertainty remains high, we remain confident in the strength and resilience of ArcelorMittal, and in our ability to successfully execute our strategy of growth, decarbonisation and sustainable returns through all aspects of the cycle.”
