Flooding hits Posco output, earnings
Posco saw steel output slump in 2022 due to furnace shutdowns and a disastrous typhoon. The typhoon and resulting flood were a key factor in lower profits, despite higher revenue last year, Kallanish notes.
Posco produced 34.219 million tonnes of crude steel in 2022, down from 38.264mt in 2021. Finished steel output was also down to 32.273mt, from 35.801mt a year earlier. Sales followed suit with a fall to 32.144mt in 2022, from 35.456mt in 2021.
