Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 20 (May 16, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 20, published 16th May 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.

  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market remains weak, with lower-priced Chinese offers available.
  • Longs: The rebar import markets in Singapore and Hong Kong have plummeted to below $800/t cfr. Rebar from the Middle East has returned to the market and is once again the most competitive.
  • Semis: Buying interest for billet continues to be sluggish in Southeast Asia. The limited offers tabled are falling. But regional importers are waiting for the market to bottom out.
  • Raw Materials: The Vietnamese scrap market is currently very soft, with competitively-priced HMS scrap-in-container gaining a foothold in the market.
