COBALT: Volkswagen joins sustainable mining initiative
German automaker Volkswagen has joined an initiative to improve artisanal cobalt mining conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, home to about 70% of global cobalt resources, Kallanish learns.
Although the company doesn’t currently accept cobalt from artisanal miners, it claims to be “actively engaging” in activities to improve living and working conditions for miners and their communities.
