COP28: Countries agree to ‘transition away’ from fossil fuels
Around 200 nations on Wednesday, for the first time, agreed to a deal to “transition away” from fossil fuels during the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
Several nations lauded the move, with Norway foreign minister Espen Barth Eide saying: “It is the first time that the world unites around such a clear text on the need to transition away from fossil fuels. It has been the elephant in the room. At last we address it head on.”
