Green hydrogen more water efficient than blue: IRENA
Green hydrogen is the most water-efficient compared to other types of hydrogen, requiring about one-third less water than blue hydrogen, according to a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Bluerisk.
While hydrogen has emerged as a “game changer” to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors, scaling up hydrogen production will increase water withdrawal and consumption, burdening water-stressed regions, the report warns.
