UK needs 10 gigafactories of 20 GWh capacity by 2040: Faraday Institution
The UK will require 10 gigafactories by 2040 to keep up with demand from the automotive and grid storage sectors, the Faraday Institution said in a recently revised report.
The updated forecast translates into 200 gigawatt-hours of battery production capacity, instead of 140 GWh forecast in a 2020 report. The difference is an increase of three new 20-GWh gigafactories, Kallanish notes.
