US awards $20m to first domestic producer of battery-grade manganese
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded $20 million to Australian firm South32 for its manganese project in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, Kallanish reports.
Matched by a $43m investment by South32, the cash injection will accelerate the production timeline by up to two years. The DoD funding comes as part of the 2024 National Defense Industrial Strategy to prop up domestic production and boost supply chain resilience.
