South Korean steel imports surge in August
South Korea saw imports jump 13.8% year-on-year in August to 1.99 million tonnes, according to the latest data from the Korea Iron and Steel Association (Kosa). Weak demand had kept import levels down earlier in the year, but now small Korean producers are struggling to gain from an increase in construction activity, Kallanish notes.
