Alton Steel implements onsite solar at Illinois mill
Illinois-based Alton Steel has become the second US steel mill to invest in onsite solar power, Kallanish learns.
Alton's system is manufactured by Qcells North America and will provide 10% of the mill's power. The two solar arrays will eventually produce enough energy to power 1,300 homes a year, reducing climate pollution by up to 6,762 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, according to a press release by Qcells.
