Baosteel Zhanjiang constructs hydrogen-based vertical furnace
Baosteel's Zhanjiang steelworks has begun the construction of a hydrogen-based vertical furnace, aiming for the production of 1 million tonnes/year of direct reduced iron, Kallanish notes.
Baowu plans to invest CNY 1.89 billion ($298 million) and commission the plant by the end of 2023. Compared to a blast furnace, the hydrogen-based reduction plant could reduce over 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
