Brazil president says Vale ‘irresponsible’ over Brumadinho disaster
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has criticised mining company Vale for being irresponsible after the collapse of a tailings dam in Brumadinho on 25 January 2019, Kallanish notes.
The disaster killed 272 people, flooding the Belo Horizonte area with nearly 12 million cubic metres of toxic mud, destroying the Bento Rodrigues, Paracatu de Baixo and Gesteira communities and contaminating waterways.
