Canadian United Steelworkers jeer Vale nickel layoffs
The United Steelworkers labour union is decrying layoffs at Vale’s Canadian nickel operations while the company reports strong third-quarter profits, Kallanish understands.
The union claims that Vale eliminated 156 jobs from its Manitoba nickel works and concurrently announced Q3 earnings of that were nearly double its earnings in Q3 2019. The union further notes that Vale’s stock price rose by 3% following the earnings announcement.
