China seeks further steelmaking capacity removal
China still needs to cut 25 million tonnes/year of steel capacity in 2018 if it is to reach its target of 140m t/y in cuts by 2020, according to the People's Daily.
The president of the China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute Li Xinchuang estimates the capacity elimination goal can be achieved this year, with increasing difficulties, Kallanish notes.
