China removes 55 million tonnes/year carbon steel capacity
China reports that 55 million tonnes/year of carbon steel capacity was closed in 2017, thus overachieving its target for the year, according to National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) director He Lifeng. The country has announced that it will eliminate 150m t/y of capacity over 2016-2020, and it aims to complete the remaining 30m t/y of cuts by the end of this year, Kallanish notes.
