Chinese steel price slide threatens profits
Chinese steel futures had another bad day on Tuesday, falling sharply. The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) notes, meanwhile, that its members were profitable in July, but falling prices mean that may not be the case for long, Kallanish notes.
The January rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed down CNY 54/tonne at CNY 2,422/t ($363/t), while the October hot rolled coil contract closed down CNY 17/t at CNY 2,780/t.
