Chinese steel prices start year on positive note
Chinese steel futures gained on Monday, sending a positive signal on the return to trading after the Chinese New Year. Whether gains can last is another matter, with steel production over the coming weeks a crucial factor, Kallanish notes.
The May rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up CNY 30/tonne over the day at CNY 1,872/t ($284/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed up CNY 10/t at CNY 1,956/t.
