Chinese steel rally falters but electricity consumption strong
Chinese steel prices ended their rally on Thursday after gaining strongly earlier in the week. Stronger growth in China’s electricity consumption in June is a positive signal for the broader economy however, Kallanish notes.
The October rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed down CNY 26/tonne at CNY 2,524/t ($377/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed down CNY 40/t at CNY 2,659/t.
