Chinese steel weakens despite Hegang hike
Chinese steel futures prices stalled on Wednesday, with rebar flat and hot rolled coil falling. A sharp increase in Hebei Iron and Steel’s ex-works prices surprised that market, but was not enough to give clarity to spot prices, Kallanish notes.
On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the October rebar contract closed at CNY 3,131/tonne ($454/t), down CNY 2/t, while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed down CNY 40/t at CNY 3,112/t.
