Hydrogen, scrap availability threaten India’s decarbonisation plans: IEEFA
The high cost of manufacturing hydrogen using renewable energy is the most significant barrier to Indian green steel production, the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and JNK Research say in a report.
According to IEEFA, the cost of green hydrogen from electrolysis today is relatively high, between $4/kg and $7/kg depending on various technologies, whereas grey hydrogen costs $1.8/kg, Kallanish notes.
