Court orders Samarco shareholders pay $9.68 billion compensation
The Brazilian 6th Federal Court of Minas Gerais has ordered Samarco shareholders Vale and BHP to pay over $9 billion in compensation for the impact caused by the Fundão dam rupture, Kallanish notes. The incident killed 19 people and flooded areas in two states of southeastern Brazil on 5 November 2015, destroying communities and contaminating navigable waterways.
