EU, US scrap exports fall, US imports surge
Scrap exports from the EU and US declined on-year in the first quarter, despite Turkey and India both increasing intake, says the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR). Notably, US scrap imports surged in the period.
The EU-27 reduced its scrap exports in Q1 by 2.2% on-year to 5.94 million tonnes, but remained the world’s largest exporter. It nevertheless increased deliveries to Turkey and the US by 15% and 9% respectively to 1.01mt and 190,000t, BIR says …
