German scrap imports rise

German steel federation WV Stahl has expressed concern over a potential future shortage of scrap in the country as a consequence of its steel industry’s transition towards lower CO2 emissions.
Major German mills declared in 2020 they would be transitioning technologies for the sake of CO2 reduction. In the meantime, they would use more scrap as feedstock to reduce emissions.
