India scraps SAIL VISP privatisation
The Indian government has annulled the privatisation of Steel Authority of India (SAIL)’s Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISP) on the back of insufficient bidder interest received for its strategic disinvestment.
SAIL invited global expressions of interest (EoI) for VISP in July 2019. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) also accorded “in principle” approval for the strategic disinvestment, Kallanish notes.
