India’s April steel imports surge amid export growth
Amid the increasing gap between domestic and imported steel prices, Indian steel imports surged 38% on-year to 461,000 tonnes in April, compared to 334,000t imported a year ago, according to Ministry of Steel data.
Meanwhile, Indian finished steel exports grew 12.48% on-year to 856,000t in April versus 761,000t exported last year. The current downtrend in the global steel industry is however expected to impact Indian steel exports going forward.
