UK considers own CBAM amid steel sector fragility
Reports are circulating this week that UK chancellor Jeremy Hunt is considering the implementation of a system similar to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) being deployed in the EU. This would shield the investments of steelmakers into green steelmaking from imports of steel produced with higher CO2 emissions.
This comes as developments in recent weeks have highlighted the ongoing fragility of the UK steelmaking sector, Kallanish notes.
