Major Chinese steelmakers' January-May profits beat 2016
Total net profit at major Chinese steelmakers reached CNY 37.885 billion ($5.58 billion) over January to May. This was higher than the total of CNY 33.15 billion over the whole of 2016 according to the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA). However, CISA members' profits dropped -14.4% month-on-month in May to CNY 7.937 billion, and May average sales margins dropped by -0.5 points to 2.7%, Kallanish notes.
