Japan’s steel output inches down in 2023
Japan’s pig iron and crude steel output fell marginally in 2023 compared with the prior year, despite a year-on-year increase in December output, according to statistics from the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF).
December output of pig iron inched up by just 0.7% month-on-month and 0.1% y-o-y to 5.068 million tonnes, taking output over the calendar year to 63.042mt, down 1.7% y-o-y.
