Japanese scrap surges
Japanese scrap export prices have jumped in East Asia, Kallanish notes. Importers have been resisting paying more after suppliers raised offer prices at the start of this month.
South Korea’s Hyundai Steel raised its bid prices for Japanese scrap in its latest auction on 18 January. The mill raised its bid by JPY 5,500/tonne ($52/t) to JPY 40,500/t ($383/t) fob for H2 grade scrap. It also bid for H1/H2 50:50 scrap at JPY 41,000/t, for HS/shred…
