Japan’s June-quarter steel output, demand to fall
Both Japanese steel production and demand are expected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to trend lower year-on-year in the April-June quarter, Kallanish notes.
METI predicts that the country’s crude steel output will fall 2.2% y-o-y to 21.72 million tonnes in the June quarter, the first y-o-y decrease in three quarters. On a quarter-on-quarter basis however, this volume would post an increase of 0.12%.
