Japan’s November steel orders remain higher on-year
In November 2023, orders of Japanese ordinary steel products slipped slowly from the prior month, but remained higher than the year-ago level, according to statistics from the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF).
Monthly orders were down just 0.8% month-on-month but up 7.8% year-on-year to 4.899 million tonnes, Kallanish notes. The weakness of orders was mainly dragged down by domestic demand, as exports were better on both m-o-m and y-o-y bases.
