Liberty Steel orders low-carbon EAF for Whyalla

GFG Alliance's Liberty Steel has announced it will phase out coal-based steelmaking at its Whyalla plant by ordering a low-carbon emissions electric arc furnace from Danieli. The new 160-tonne cutting-edge EAF will lift the mill's steelmaking capacity at Whyalla from 1 million tonnes/year to over 1.5m t/y, Kallanish notes.
