Nippon Steel shipments slip despite strong domestic market

Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (Nippon Steel) reported flat profits in its first financial half year despite firm domestic demand. The company expects domestic strength to continue, limiting the availability of exports, Kallanish notes. Steel shipments fell slightly to 18.56 million tonnes over the financial first half (April-September) from 18.72mt a year earlier.
