NLMK orders new thick slab caster from SMS
NLMK has contracted SMS to supply a new 2 million tonnes/year thick slab caster for steelmaking shop 2 at Lipetsk. This will be built in place of the current two-strand caster supplied by SMS in 1976.
The new unit will be able to cast over 300mm thick slab made from crack-sensitive steel grades. The maximum width of slab produced will be extended to 2,800mm from the current 2,200mm, with thickness expanded to 400mm from 355mm. The unit is equipped for twin …
