Philippine steel firms invest $1 billion
Philippine steel companies have committed to investing more than $1 billion over the coming six years, according to Philippine Iron and Steel Institute president Roberto Cola. Cola’s own company, Steel Asia, accounts for around half of that, Kallanish notes.
Steel Asia is planning to invest around $500 million on expanding its capacity with three new lines. That includes the 1.2 million tonnes/year rebar mill it plans to commission in Plaridel next year.
