South Africa's Merafe sees first-quarter ferrochrome production decline
South Africa-listed Merafe Resources Limited (MRL) saw a substantial decrease in its attributable ferrochrome production from the Glencore Merafe Chrome Venture for the first quarter, Kallanish notes.
MRL recorded a 26% on-year output fall in Q1 to 87,000 tonnes, from 103,000t in Q1 2023.
"The reduction in production is due to the Rustenburg smelter which has not operated in 2024 in response to market conditions," says Merafe.
