Thyssenkrupp commits to DRI for future steelmaking
Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe is banking on direct reduced ironmaking as the preferred technology for steel production, in combination with other steps to reduce and ideally avoid CO2.
Earlier this year, outgoing ceo Premail Desai brought up DRI as the way to go for cleaner steel (see Kallanish passim). Meanwhile, the company has made official that it intends to build its first commercial-scale DRI plant in the mid-2020s.
